Maria in Italy
Maria has just returned from her singing tour in Italy. Some of the highlights were performances in Rome, Sorrento, Venice and Varese. Maria’s CD is rapidly becoming popular in Milan.
Maria Manna in Bosnia
As Klondike Kate and Edmonton’s Ambassador for the yearly festival of Klondike Days, Maria was graced with the opportunity to entertain the Canadian Troops in Aviano, Italy as well as Bosnia. She was escorted by seven mayors from various town and cities in Alberta.
Sgt. Marc Léger who died in friendly fire in Afghanistan in 2002 was the leader for the 10 days in Bosnia.
When Maria returned to Edmonton, she was so touched by what she saw and the suffering the children were still enduring even after the war was over, that she decided to set up the Bosnian Children’s Relief Foundation.
She approached all the school boards in Alberta and asked them to donate sports equipment, computers and school supplies to the children of Bosnia. Every school complied. The Canadian Military supplied the airplane. At one point Maria was contacted by the Canadian Military to inform her that the aircraft was full and asked not to send any more supplies.
The goods were sent to Bosnia.
She then recorded a CD to raise funds for the Foundation and again the Military assisted her by covering the cost of the CD. All 1,000 were sold.
